When Slither showed up for me at the library, I had no idea why the fuck I'd ordered it. I mean, yes, I almost certainly saw it recommended on io9, but what the fuck was I thinking? The cover clearly indicated it was one of those creepy crawly horror movies. I only willingly watch those on mst3k.

It turned out to be a decent movie, for a creepy crawly/zombie/alien/monster/tentacle porn horror movie. And I'm not just saying that because Nathan Fillion is it in. The writing was clearly Whedon-inspired if not Whedonesque (moreso for Fillion than for anyone else, so maybe he just learned something on Firefly), the women not only survived but were useful, and special effects have progressed to the point that they can make low budget horror that looks vaguely plausible. And while scaring me was never a possibility, it was quite startling at points.

This reminds me of another point: Buffy was an awesome show, and the actors were excellent, but their subsequent projects sucked and I've made no effort to follow them. In contrast, the firefly crew has a reasonable record of projects. Or maybe River Tam Kills Everything, a show I've not actually watched, has me biased right now.
