Really, this entry turned out fairly boring, but eh, whatever, the first paragraph is funny.
Davan allows the kitten outdoors, and I have reluctantly followed suit. Today, after letting him out, I got nervous and tried to find him. Eventually, I did. On the downstairs neighbors' porch, attempting to eat their pet bird. The bird was in a fairly small cage, on the ground, and he was batting at whichever wall was closest. The bird was freaked out, but the bars were too small for Cortez to reach through, so I didn't worry about it.
A few minutes later, I hear the neighbors go on to their porch and sound alarmed. The older son (10? 12?) assured him mom that the cat was allowed outdoors (he'd previously brought him up to us, assuming he'd escaped), and then there was some yelling in Russian. When I heard a knock on the door several hours later, I assumed it was the neighbors wanting to yell at me. In fact, it was the older son, with his friend, asking if they could see the cat. In the spirit of good neighbor relations, I brought them the cat, and he was overjoyed, although his friend seemed non-plussed. Perhaps the neighbors have realized the stupidity of leaving a bird on the ground outside.
