Don't buy a laptop without the long warranty and in-home parts replacement policy. Also, don't buy Sony anything.

I'll put in a good word for Dell here. Their techsupport isn't terribly knowledgeable, but they've willingly replaced my screen, 2 hard drives, the RAM, two motherboards, and a keyboard in the past 3 years. Always polite, the only restriction is that they have to go through their pointless techsupport checklist before issuing the new part.
