Accidentally Atkins
Mar. 31st, 2007 01:10 pmI'm a terrible vegetarian, and have always had a very carb heavy diet. Last year I mostly dropped corn syrup from my diet, and made great strides in switching from simple to complex carbs. Last month I decided to try to up my protein intake, because protein is good for you and I don't get enough. I was already eating eggs for breakfast almost every day, but I added a daily yogurt to my diet, plus nuts as a snack. My other primary snack was fruit, and I'd occasionally have a bowl of cereal (I keep cereal at work). I find protein really, really filling, so , generally by the time I got home from work I was full and didn't want anything else. While hardly low carb, it does contain significantly fewer carbs than, say, my all pasta all the time college diet.
This seems to have upset both my stomach and my brain. My digestive system has been kind of eugh for weeks, and I've been really tired and little bit meh lately. (I think I masked some of the effects by making and then consuming brownies). I didn't intentially set out to not eat carbs, I just ate protein and then was full. I think this enabled me to lose a couple of pounds though, which is nice.
In summary: I, a vegetarian of limited dietary variety, accidentally went on the Atkins diet.
