Nov. 3rd, 2008 07:06 pmA guy committed suicide by jumping off a bridge today (one of the ones between my office and university Violent visited, although not the one I use. It apparently gets more suicide than Cornell). Except he didn't exactly jump. Someone caught a photo, and he spent 2 hours hanging onto the bridge. He didn't jump, he just let go. I got to thinking: one of the reasons that stops profoundly depressed people from killing themselves is they just don't have the energy. The most dangerous time is as they start to feel better, but are still really fucking depressed.
I wonder if suicide by bridge operates differently then more active methods. Guns need to have triggers pulled and pills need to be swallowed. but to die by plummeting, all you have to do is let go.
