Oh! It's also worth mentioning here that if you ever get a chance to flip through a JROTC textbook, at the kind of school where they can afford textbooks and aren't just winging it, my experience is that it's worth a serious look, for the kinds of things they try to teach explicitly. The leadership stuff is a bit like a self-help book in textbook form, i.e. with illustrations and activities.
