So, not to nit-pick over language, but I think what you're cringing over is the technical term "lazy broke-ass," not "poor," which is unfortunately used interchangably by everyone.
"Poor" means permanently or temporarily misfortunate; you've had quite a few set-backs and aren't quite educated enough to work out the scrawling legalese that's required to dig yourself out of whatever hole you're in.
"Broke-ass" means.. well, my parents in their younger days. They consumed leisure items on credit cards without a reasonable income stream or willingness to work hard to pay for it (situation 1), which easily leads to situations 2-4.
I'm sure that clears up absolutely nothing. I guess the difference is the williness to get yourself out of your situation based on where you're at. :) Thanks for writing this, though; it's quite well thought out!
