Oct. 9th, 2012 08:46 pmRemember when my apartment was robbed, taking the week old TV that was the nicest thing I had ever bought for myself? And I didn't have insurance because I'd missed some paperwork, which they called me about the day before but I didn't answer because I was on the phone with a friend? And the credit card didn't cover because I'd used a terrible store credit card that had no interest for N months, rather than one of my decent ones?
yeah, that was not a great day.
Well, three and a half years later, they caught the guy, and I'm eligible for restitution. Only they want concrete numbers, "I think I remember it was $1000" is not sufficient. And any scrap of paper I might have retained with any information about the TV was tossed when I moved. I called the store, who basically said "you don't remember the day, the model, or the brand. You want us to do this with an approximate date and price? Well, at least you have a unique last name." But I knew that unique last name just means there are a billion ways it could possibly be spelled. It could be worse, the other item stolen was a computer I bought in 2004. Oh, and I have a fairly tight deadline for this, because the DA mailed the paperwork to my old address.
Well, they found my TV receipt the next day. And the dentist says the gum infection she popped and cleaned yesterday is healing nicely. It was a good day.
