Mar. 13th, 2011 04:19 pmCiti credit card company and I play a game. They send me a applications for credit cards that will give me some money- usually $50- in cash back after I use it once. I use the card once, collect my $50, and cancel the card.* Some months later, they send me another application, I collect another $50. I like to think of this as doing my part to punish them for promiscuous and manipulative distribution of credit credit cards.
Recently they caught on, and require me to spend $300 on the card before giving me my $50. Short as my patience may be, it's still worth it to me to pursue this. But I think they felt bad about the wait, so to make it up to me, they're speeding up the cycle: I haven't quite gotten to $300 on the current card yet, but they just approved me for a second.
*Any dings this creates on my credit report would be minor and temporary, if they existed at all.
